SYNOPSIS

The highly decorated homicide detective, Choi, accidentally commits murder. Fearing this incident will affect his career, he cleans up and flees the scene. When the body winds up displayed in front of the police station the next morning, Choi has no choice but to take charge of the case and conceal his traces. [KoBiz]

IN SHORT

Be careful what you wish for, you may get it. In this case, it's seeing Son Hyun-Joo get the leading roles he had deserved for well over a decade, with the lamentable addendum that they've so far come in the form of rather insipid genre fare. Helmed by old Chungmuro veteran Baek Woon-Hak, whose last directing credit goes all the way back to 2003's action blockbuster 튜브 (Tube), this is the classic high-concept thriller that puts one too many eggs in the “surprise ending” basket, leaving everything else severely underdeveloped. Were it not for Son, the tension created by the central premise (the “necessarily evil” deeds that his character is forced to perpetrate) would have no legs to stand on whatsoever, thanks to the flimsiest of characterizations, a bevvy of stock characters which is not helped in the slightest by typecasting (particularly Ma Dong-Seok in yet another physically imposing but laid back detective), and didactic narrative that spells out even the most obvious introspection. When the “shocking surprise” does happen, all the flashbacks and backtracking in the world can't avert a very flat and anticlimactic finale. Park Seo-Joon is quite decent, but Choi Daniel is hilariously miscast.
